Offensive Outlook: Led by senior running back Terrell Lindsey, the Yellowjackets averaged just un- der 34 points per game last season, and they hope to carry that offensive power into this season. Lindsey was one of the better running backs in the county last year. He finds holes and runs through tackles which make him a force to be reckoned with in the 2A division. Senior wide receiver Devin Curry will also be a huge factor in how well the offense performs. At 6-foot-1, Curry can outjump defenders for tough catches on deep throws, which can lead to key first downs or touchdowns. Senior quar- terback Darrian Lee can use Lindsey and Curry, along with his speed, to make plays for this team all season.
Defensive Outlook: Last year’s Yellowjackets team held opponents to 14 points or less eight times. Se- nior free safety Kibwe Galloway led the way, as he knows how to cover the entire field, create turnovers and make tackles. His teammates have confidence in him when the oppos- ing quarterback throws a deep pass because it will usually end in a turnover or incompletion. Holding down the middle of the defense will be senior linebacker Jalund Johnson. Johnson can break through blocks and make tackles on the run. Up front on the defensive line, senior defen- sive end Danny Hayes, Jr. should play a bigger role this season. Due to his size at 5-foot-10 and 210 pounds, Hayes can break through blocks to cause problems for the quarterback and running game.
Coach’s Quote: “The kids have very high expectations for this up- coming season. Last year we had too many turnovers and we didn’t punch the ball in after causing turnovers, and then would give the ball right back. We need to throw the ball some
more and work on our passing situa- tions. They have learned a lot. We are going to use that spark all season long.” – Danny Hayes.
Scouting report: After going 9- 1 last season, the Yellowjackets will have some added motivation this year. Over the offseason, the team lost their starting senior center Nor- man White to a car accident. The players talk about him every practice and use his loss to hopefully create wins on the football field. Last year the Yellowjackets lost in the first round of the playoffs to Calvert.
Breakaway Potential: Gwynn Park is a good team on both sides of the ball, and could surprise many teams going into the playoffs. It has a great coaching staff, a lot of confi- dence and motivation going into this season.
